Membership
-
While the club welcomes all people, membership is limited to adults over the age of 21 who are sponsored by three members. However, don’t be daunted! We’re easygoing people and eager to embrace new members..
The sponsorship process allows us to advocate for your membership and functions as a way to vouch that the people coming in are kind humans, and will be interested and invested in the Club. No one will be excluded or not sponsored based on race, gender, economic privilege, ethnicity, religion, etc.. It’s a historic building with many amenities, and members take care of it and one another on somewhat of an honor system. Here is the Application Form.
One way to meet us — and get sponsors for your applications is to attend one of our public activities or events. We host meals, open houses, and many members host activities that are open to the public, such as bridge, and board games. Click on the Public Activities page to see what’s scheduled!
-
There is a $20 application fee. Dues are payable twice a year in January and July. Individuals pay $100 twice a year – for a total of $200/per year. Two adults in a household pay $190 twice a year for a total of $380/per year. Use of the Club facilities for group activities may incur a fee. Contact the
Rental Manager if that is of interest.
-
As a member, you get a key to the front door and can access the club whenever you want during regular club hours (7 a.m. - 11 p.m.). You can vote on Club finances and get a say on how the Club runs. There are pool and billiards tables upstairs, and lovely humans who would love to teach you and get you involved in weekly members-only pool nights. There is a historic candlepin bowling alley in the basement, with a bowling league coming soon. We have Friday dinners usually twice a month from October through April. These often include guest speakers, musicians, or other entertainment.
-
Woodfords Club is a community. Importantly, this means that membership is only for people who are interested in community – meeting people, neighbors, and getting to know the area. Other members will want to get to know you! Being a community also means we all need to pitch in and help by volunteering on work days, events, committees, and serving/clearing at mealtimes. Woodfords is a beautiful historic building, but that means it needs a lot of maintenance. If you have a skill, like carpentry, upholstering, or cooking, we have work for you! And if you don’t think you have a skill but are willing to jump in, then we can use your help with painting, cleaning, and organizing.
-
Make sure to give your application with its three sponsor signatures to one of your sponsors, who will make sure that it is put into the secretary’s box by the office. Alternatively, you can leave it in the mailbox outside the front door. The next step will be for the Board and then the members to vote on your application. This can take 30+ days.
-
There are various committees that you can volunteer to join. Some current ones are: Building Maintenance, Dinner, Aesthetics, Budget and Finance, Membership, Bylaws, and Website. Dinners are a main event at the Club and volunteers to serve, plate, and cook are always needed. Because this is such an old building, we are in great need of access to professional maintenance people. We are not looking for free labor here, just reliable people we can hire when needed. Additionally, we often have work days to paint, repair, and restore the building.
To join the board as a Director, you need to be nominated and elected by the members. The nine Directors each serve three-year terms. Three new Directors are elected every year, usually at the March members meeting. Officers are elected by the Directors after the March elections.
-
Of course. We want to grow the membership. New members must have a sponsor and two other signees on their applications.
-
Currently, we have approximately 150 people ranging in age from twenty-something to ninety-something.
